Grok Bot adds Primary Bot to suggest user tasks
Grok Bot introduces a Primary Bot that proactively suggests tasks and manages other assistants without counting suggestions against weekly usage limits.
The lead assistant coordinates cloud agents and suggests actions before receiving prompts; x.ai says suggestions do not draw down usage limits.
SpaceXAI updated Grok Bot to let the system take initiative during daily workflows. Under the update, users can set up a Primary Bot that spots pending tasks and offers to handle them without waiting for manual prompts. According to an announcement by the official @bot account on X on 1 October 2026, these proactive recommendations do not count against subscription usage quotas. The company documented the release the following day in its v0.66.0 changelog.
What Grok Bot actually does
Grok Bot is distinct from the chat interface built into X. Launched by SpaceXAI on 11 August 2026, it is an environment for desktop and iOS where artificial intelligence agents run on persistent virtual computers in the cloud.
These bots maintain scheduled routines, manage files, and keep working even after closing the client window. A single subscriber can set up dedicated agents to track code changes, parse notes, or watch external feeds, keeping several automated workflows running in parallel.
How the Primary Bot works
In the updated client, users choose one assistant to serve as the lead agent, marked by a star in the sidebar. The interface lets users build a dedicated coordinator from scratch or designate an existing custom bot to take the lead.
Screenshots of the iOS application shared by independent analyst TestingCatalog before the public announcement outline the initial configuration. During setup, the Primary Bot states that it can supervise other agents in the workspace and route specific tasks to the appropriate specialist.
Running the coordinator requires Grok Bot version 0.59.0 or later, according to the v0.66.0 release notes. On 5 October, patch v0.68.0 added an operational boundary: shared workspace bots, labeled Team Bots, cannot be converted into a primary bot.
From reactive prompts to proactive proposals
Most generative software remains strictly reactive. A person types instructions, the system generates an answer, and processing ends until the next command arrives. If the user forgets to prompt the tool, nothing moves forward.
A proactive assistant reorganizes that interaction pattern. Instead of waiting for manual input at every turn, the lead agent evaluates the user’s working context and asks whether it should handle specific chores. The software acts less like an on-demand prompt box and more like a background coordinator distributing routine tasks across specialized bots.
Limits and open questions
The company stated that unprompted suggestions do not consume account quotas. What the technical documentation does not clarify is what happens after approval: when an account holder accepts an offer, carrying out the actual assignment likely draws against normal weekly usage limits.
SpaceXAI also omitted details about the specific data sources, local triggers, or connected services the bot reads to craft its proposals. Unofficial claims alleging that the agent automatically integrates with third-party transportation apps or personal purchasing accounts remain a RUMOR without technical confirmation. Rollout began gradually in early October, and the company has not published figures on how much of its active user base currently has access.
