Perplexity Financial Skills Launch for Amex Cards

Perplexity and American Express rolled out 10 financial skills for small businesses on Perplexity Computer, pulling card expenses via Plaid.

The integration uses Plaid to read card expenses inside a “Personal CFO” portal, while contract terms leave responsibility for accounting mistakes outside the bank and the AI model.

On 1 October 2026, Perplexity and American Express rolled out ten Perplexity financial skills for small and medium businesses in the United States. The collection runs inside Perplexity Computer under a dedicated page titled “Personal CFO,” accessible to organizations with an active Perplexity Enterprise Pro or Enterprise Max subscription. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas announced the move on X, with technical specifications confirmed on the company’s official blog and in coverage by FF News.

How Perplexity financial skills work with Plaid

Inside Perplexity Computer, “Skills” function as structured templates for routine office tasks. Instead of writing custom prompts from scratch, users fill out preset fields, and the underlying model runs the process against their business data.

To feed transaction history into these workflows, the service connects eligible Amex Business cards through Plaid. Plaid operates as a read-only banking connector: it pulls card charges using end-to-end encryption without authority to move money, send wires, or edit account details. Cardholders can revoke access at any time through their account settings. Amex Corporate Cards are explicitly excluded from the program.

The 10 automated tasks

The library covers ten financial and operational routines:

  1. 90-day weekly cash flow projections
  2. Tax season expense organization and deduction summaries
  3. Supplier and vendor price comparisons against market benchmarks
  4. Scenario modeling and cash runway estimates based on up to 24 months of revenue history
  5. Expense reconciliation against invoices and receipts
  6. Marketing campaign drafts, with export support for HubSpot, Mailchimp, or Klaviyo
  7. Demand forecasting using up to 18 months of Google Analytics web traffic
  8. Channel-by-channel return on ad spend (ROAS) audits
  9. Operational performance monitoring connected to Google Sheets or Snowflake
  10. Job post drafting and initial applicant screening

Pricing, credits, and the SaaS territory

Running a skill consumes “Computer Credits,” Perplexity’s billing unit for model execution. As an adoption incentive, American Express offers a $125 statement credit for eligible cardholders who spend $325 or more on Perplexity Enterprise subscriptions before 29 March 2027. Perplexity also adds a one-time grant of 1,000 bonus Computer Credits per account, valid for 60 calendar days.

The partnership highlights Perplexity’s broader shift: moving past search synthesis to compete on enterprise desktops alongside traditional accounting systems such as QuickBooks and Xero. For American Express, the deal helps defend business card retention against fintech competitors like Ramp and Brex, which built their growth on automated expense reporting and software integrations.

Contract terms and limits to know

A virtual CFO sounds convenient, but legal liability remains squarely on the business owner. Under the partnership agreement, American Express states it accepts no responsibility for Perplexity’s software or the outputs it creates. Perplexity includes an explicit clause noting that all outputs are for informational use only and do not replace certified accountants, tax professionals, or legal counsel.

Several practical questions remain without public answers:

  • Output accuracy: neither company published third-party audits or benchmark tests measuring hallucination rates when the tool analyzes complex corporate balance sheets.
  • Geographic availability: the feature is strictly limited to US businesses, with no announced schedule for international markets.
  • Long-term running costs: credit usage varies depending on dataset size and task complexity, and Perplexity has not published a fixed per-run rate table for when the 1,000 promotional credits expire.
